ITEHAS – HISTORY

The Budha Dal is a significant Sikh military order that traces its origins back to the time of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, the sixth Guru of Sikhism. The exact date of its formation is not well-documented, but it is believed to have been established during the 17th century.

Baba Budha Ji, a revered figure in Sikh history, played a crucial role in the early days of Sikhism. They were one of the closest disciples of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru of Sikhism, and served as a trusted advisor and companion to the succeeding Gurus as well. Baba Budha Ji’s wisdom, devotion, and selfless service earned them a prominent place in Sikh tradition.

During the time of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, Baba Budha Ji arrived at the Gwalior Fort. Accompanied by Sikh warriors on horseback, they went to greet the Sixth Guru. Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji was deeply pleased by this gesture and granted a boon or blessing to Baba Budha Ji.

The Budha Dal, being an integral part of Sikh history, carries forward the legacy of Baba Budha Ji’s teachings and the martial traditions of the Sikh faith. It is recognized as one of the important “jathas” or sects within the Sikh community.

As for the current Jathedar (leader) of the Budha Dal, it is  Baba Joginder Singh Ji was known to have held the position of Jathedar of the Budha Dal.
