ਪੂਰਨੁ ਤਾਲੁ ਖਟਾਇਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗਾਵੈ।
He got dug the complete holy tank and here settling down at Amritsar, he spread his light.

(Bhai Gurdaas Ji Vaaran)

The fourth manifestation of Sri Akaal Purakh is Guru Raam Daas Ji. Guru Raam Das Ji were born on 24 September 1534 at Chuna Mandi, Lahore. Formerly known as Jetha, he was orphaned at the age of seven and from there after grew up with his maternal grandmother in a village.

At the age of 12, Bhai Jetha moved with his maternal grandmother to Goindwal Sahib where they met Guru Amar Daas Ji. Bhai Jetha became a disciple of Guru Amar Daas Ji and went on to marry their daughter, thus becoming part of Guru Amar Daas Ji’s family. Rather than choosing their own sons, Guru Amar Daas Ji picked Bhai Jetha as the new successor of the Sikhs and was renamed ‘Raam Daas’ (the slave of God).

Guru Raam Daas Ji founded the Amritsar City, the city where Sri Harimandir Sahib is located. Guru Raam Daas Ji had originally found the land and named it ‘Ramdaspur’. He started by completing the sarovar (as instructed by Guru Amar Daas Ji). After many settlers, the town eventually became the city of Amritsar.

Guru Raam Daas Ji did Akaal Chalana in 1 September 1581 in Goindwal Sahib and the Gurgaddi was passed onto their son, Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
