1) SATGURU NANAK JI

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਆ ਮਿਟੀ ਧੁੰਧੁ ਜਗਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਆ।
With the emergence of the true Guru Nanak, the mist cleared and the light scattered all around.
ਜਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਨਿਕਲਿਆ ਤਾਰੇ ਛਪਿ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਪਲੋਆ।
As if the sun rose and the stars disappeared. The darkness was dispelled.

(Bhai Gurdaas Ji Vaaran)

Satguru Nanak Ji is the first of the Gurus of the Sikhs. Guru Ji were born on the Puranmashi of Kattak in 1469 at Rai Bhoi di Talvandi (now Nankana Sahib, Pakistan) to his mother Mata Tripta Ji and father Pita Kalu Ji. The nature of Guru Ji’s birth is recorded as auspicious as their birth were under the same constellation of stars in Satjug for the previous manifestations of Sri Akaal Purakh (see Panth Parkash, Volume 1, Episode about the first Sikh Guru). Whoever came to receive darshan of Satguru Nanak were filled with spiritual bliss and joy. Such was the lightning radiance of the incarnation of Sri Akaal Purakh.

At the young age of 5, Guru Ji had voiced interest in subjects regarding spirituality. At the age of 7, Pita Kalu Ji had enrolled Guru Ji in school in hope for them to become successful in business. The teacher of Guru Nanak were astonished at the in-depth description of the first akhar resembling the mathematical number ‘1’ as denoting the oneness of Sri Akaal Purakh.

Guru Ji married Mata Sulakhni Ji and would go on to have two children Baba Sri Chand Ji and Lakhmi Chand Ji. Guru Ji’s life consisted of numerous udasis (travels) along with their companions Bhai Bala Ji and Bhai Mardana Ji. As part of these travels, Guru Ji propagated the teachings of the supreme one – Akaal Purakh to people of all walks of life. Throughout Guru Ji’s life, they selflessly served people regardless of caste, religion, ethnicity as for Guru Ji mere labels were but an illusion and a veil of the supreme timeless one.

Guru Ji had appointed Bhai Lenha Ji (Guru Angad Ji) as the successor Guru of the Sikhs. Guru Ji left their physical body on 22 September 1539. Such was the greatness of Satguru Nanak Ji who were Sri Akaal Purakh themselves incarnate in this universe. It is none other than Satguru Nanak Ji who are manifest within the later Gurus.
